Join staff on this late fall hike at Genevieve Casey Nature Sanctuary. This interesting parcel contains an oak-pine barrens community, with species associated with both prairie and forest ecosystems, creating a diverse wildlife habitat. This lightly travelled 54 acre parcel off Buchanan Road in Shelby, MI offers a wonderful opportunity to hunt for signs of beaver activity. Masters of the down fall, did you know beaver are often able to fell a tree in the direction of their lodge? We will plan to hike both loop trails for a total distance of approximately 2 miles. Although we will be in a Nature Sanctuary, it is recommended that you wear hunter’s orange any time you are in the forest during fall and winter hunting seasons.
