2016 Farm Tour- August 6th!

Mark your calendars for the morning of Saturday, August 6th. The Oceana Conservation District (OCD) in partnership with the Oceana County Farm Bureau (OCFB) and the local USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will host its 4th annual farm bus tour. The conservation tour is funded through an educational grant to the OCFB from NRCS for the purpose of promoting Farm Bill Programs and the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP).

The tour will begin at a location with ample parking in the Shelby vicinity at 9 am sharp. A bus will take our guests to area farms in Shelby and Ferry Townships to view and learn about a variety of environmental stewardship practices implemented on the visited farms.  Practices highlighted during the tour will include: Pesticide Storage & Handling, Proper fuel storage, Windbreaks, Drift Management, Irrigation Management, Native Grass and/or Pollinator Plantings, Pasture Management, Composting, Animal Waste Management and Forest Management. A complimentary lunch will be provided at noon on route or back at our meeting point. The tour is free but reservations are needed by August 3rd.
